Hello Chocolate!

I don’t have a sweet tooth but sometimes chocolate just does the trick when it comes to satisfying cravings. This one-layer chocolate cake is moist and pure chocolate deliciousness. You can top the cake with ganache (more like drench it) or you can top it with buttercream. Easy Peasy, cake so easy!

Ingredients

2 cups flour

2 cups sugar

¾ cup cocoa powder

2 tsp baking powder

1½ tsp bicarbonate of soda

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup milk or buttermilk

½ cup sunflower oil

2 eggs

2 tsp vanilla essence

1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees.
  2. Combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda, and salt.
  3. Add milk, oil, eggs, and vanilla and mix together until well combined.
  4. Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture and combine.
  5. Slowly add boiling water while mixing until combined.
  6. Add the batter into an oiled cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  7. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.

For the ganache:

80g dark chocolate

2 tbsp butter

50ml  milk

Cut the chocolate into small pieces. Add the chocolate and the butter into a double boil and melt while stirring. Once melted, slowly add the milk while stirring. Once mixed, remove from the heat and cool down slightly. Pour the ganache over the cooled cake and garnish with shaved chocolate.
