My husband absolutely loves fruit scones. To him, a scone is not a scone without fruit (I beg to differ). He can have fruit scones any day and at any time of the day. Whether for breakfast or afternoon tea, scones warm the soul and are perfect for any occasion.

Fruit scones

Ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 100g cold butter or margarine
- ½ cup caster sugar or sugar
- 1 cup baking fruit mix or currants
- 100 ml milk
- 75 ml sour milk (maas)
- 1 egg for brushing
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, castor sugar, and salt.
- Cut the butter into small pieces.
- Using your hands, mix the butter into the flour mixture until the mixture looks like fine crumbs.
- Add the fruit and combine.
- Add the sour milk and milk and mix into a soft but not sticky dough.
- Place dough on a floured surface and roll out.
- Cut round shapes using biscuit cutters or a cup.
- Brush the top with egg.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and cool.
